How do you choose a good snack?
You know the situation: you're back at the supermarket, your toddler is trying to climb out of the shopping cart, and you're trying to figure out which snack is actually a good choice. Because snacks for children? That's a whole world of its own. Colorful packaging, cute characters, and claims that make you feel as though your child earns an extra healthy-eating diploma with every bite. But how do you know what is really a smart choice?
Let's break it down.
1. Look beyond the front of the packaging
“No added sugar”, “packed with fruit”, “high in fiber” — sounds fantastic, but the real truth is, as always, on the back.
Check the ingredients list:
- Do you see fruit, vegetables, or grains at the top? Great!
- Is sugar, syrup, or fruit juice concentrate listed surprisingly early? Then you're probably getting more candy than snack.
- The shorter the list, the better. Children really don't need fancy flavorings or 'magical extracts'.
2. Snack ≠ sugar bomb
Toddlers need energy, but not the roller coaster that comes with fast sugars. It's better to choose snacks that:
- contain fiber (hello, happy tummy),
- have natural flavors,
Naturally sweet ingredients like apple, strawberry, or rosehip can be perfect — without sending your child bouncing off the walls on a sugar high.
3. Think about texture (and safety!)
From around 2.5 years old, many children can already nibble quite well, but every toddler is different. A snack should:
- be easy to hold,
- not be too hard or too brittle,
- and above all: safe to eat without you constantly sitting on the edge of your seat.
4. Take into account... your reality
We could make it romantic, but honestly: sometimes you just want something you can quickly toss into your handbag.
A snack your toddler enjoys, that doesn't crumble everywhere, and actually has some nutritional value? Yes please.
You don't have to be a perfect snack mom or dad — simply making a conscious choice is more than enough.
5. And yes, take a look at us too 😉
We put a lot of love into our snacks for toddlers, like the new apple stickies with a strawberry and rosehip coating. No added sugar, no junk, just pure flavors that make children happy.
But honestly: whether you choose us or not, more than anything, we want you to feel confident in your choice.
